Texas Tech's interest in boosting
its student enrollment levels to 40,000 could create
1,500 on-campus jobs and more than 2,000 countywide,
according to a "Profile of Projects Report" released
by the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance. "That's
why we need to start preparing now," said Terri
Patterson, director of workforce development for the
city-appointed economic development corporation. Early
projection models show that Tech will increase its employment
from 5,800 to 7,300, while city/county jobs will grow
from 7,834 to 9,857. The projections were based on IMPLAN,
a forecasting software. The projections do not take into
account new jobs created through attraction and/or retention
expansion efforts.
